Unusual lethargy in grade gelding QH
Post Body

Our QH gelding has been unusually lethargic for 6-8 weeks. I discussed with the vet and I suggested lymes and asked for his opinion when he was scheduled to come out for vaccinations. Although, when the vet came out for vaccinations, he was quite energetic.

The last 2 weeks he has been laying down to rest frequently and for extended stretches of time. Not colic. He lays down in inclement weather such as rain and frost. Sometimes he gets up and his rear legs are stiff. He lays down for hours more than 3 times a day.

No heat in his legs or swelling. No rocking back to his rear legs. He has been frequently shifting his weight from left rear to right rear frequently as if he can’t get comfortable.

The chiropractor is coming out to adjust him on Thursday.

Farrier came out and did a balance trim. He was running around the pasture and didn’t want to be caught. Farrier said he moves out fine.

I ponied him behind my mare Wednesday and he had lots of energy. Then yesterday bf and I went on a trail ride and he was huffing and puffing walking up hills he would normally canter up. Had no desire to keep up with me and my mare when normally he would be pushing her to move out. We turned around early.

I’m asking the vet to come out and do a full panel of bloodwork including lymes.

Any suggestions of additional options I should ask the vet to do while he is here?

Something is going on with him.
