Hey guys ! I’m a writer looking for advice on horses.

Post Body

I’m writing a story about an experienced rider going to a camp after taking some time off due to an injury and I have a few questions because while there will be cliches, I do want to avoid the Somewhere, An Equestrian Is Crying trope when possible.

  1. She’s 19 and has ridden pretty much her entire life, being a bit of a local celebrity. What kind of prizes would she have and how many ? She and her horse mainly do showjumping.

  2. After a broken hip, how would she start training again and what would be the difference in strenght and flexibility ? Assuming no permanent damage, she’s just out of practice.

  3. When do horses get their show names ?

  4. What are some good resources beside this subreddit for learning about how everything works ?

  5. What are some things in equestrian fiction that people consistently get wrong or something you don’t see often but think should be portrayed more ?

  6. Any other advice ?
