Hi everyone. First time posting , on mobile so apologies for the format in advance.
Some background: My horse is a 26 year old retired Standardbred. She is in a separate paddock but shares a fence on both sides with multiple horses. One horse in particular she fights (by fight I mean the odd one leg kick throw or bite, never contact never serious injury’s) through the fence but not often and usually only when she is eager for supper.
This evening I noticed she was walking slower than usual with an off step, assuming it was her feet I took her inside to clean them out and check her over. I immediately noticed her chest had a large lump, it is firm to touch and there was slight heat. I applied pressure and she became uncomfortable and leaned away from me. But it is causing discomfort and her ability to walk normally.
There is no change in her eating or drinking, her attitude or livelihood. She is not a horse to show when she is sore or uncomfortable, she had way worse injury’s that didn’t phase her, I keep close attention to her body and movements to ensure she doesn’t have any sore spots since she doesn’t like to show when she isn’t feeling well.
The veterinarians where I live are limited and it being the weekend I’m not sure how much luck I will have to get in contact with one. For the time being does anybody have any advice on how I should go about treating this? Such as a cold or hot compress? Blue cool or green cool massage? Stall rest?
Thank you in advance, please no hate or negativity I just want my girl to get better and help her as much as I can in the meantime before I can reach a vet.
