I am Chinese. As someone who work professionally in dressage training, i have never seen draw rein used in US. It is very prevalent in China, doesn’t matter what age, what lvl of horses, draw reins are very common. On social media i have never seen anyone using it, not even in Europe, but i have seen many expat riders and trainers do it in China. And based on some textbooks, side rein is beneficial for early training but draw rein, especially locked down under the chest is harmful. So i just want ask what professional do, especially if you work in FEI or international lvl.
Edit: Thank you for everyone’s input! Looks like the general feeling about draw reins, even side reins are that they rarely get used correctly and even used, should be a very short period of time. And if you are FEI or international rider or trainer, it is most likely its NOT needed at that skill lvl. 👍
