How to break up with trainer?
Post Body

So, after getting a lot of advice from this sub (posts deleted because there was a lot of identifying info and I don't want someone to find it) I have made the decision to move my mare and stop associating with my current trainer/coach. I am moving my mare on April 30th to another barn. I'm paid through until June at current barn so I'm not screwing the barn owner over even if I tell her on the day I move my horse. The barn owner and trainer are separate people.

I like the barn owner and would like to tell her earlier so it's not a surprise when I pull up with a trailer. She has not ever really done anything that has rubbed me the wrong way. I could trust her with my horse. I am just worried that if I tell her, she will tell the trainer.

The trainer is the problem. Without fleshing out my entire last post with all the identifying info, she has taken advantage of me time and time again financially and I have reached the end of my rope. I don't even really want to keep taking lessons with her (3x per week) until we move barns because she makes me lunge the horse into the ground beforehand and then my lessons are seriously like 5 trot loops around the ring and then it's "okay, time's up, walk her out". My last two lessons I had like 5 minutes of actual activity and the rest of it was me walking the perimeter while she complained about her personal life while walking next to me. I have been taking lessons at another barn for a little over a month and it really opened my eyes to how poor quality the lessons at my first barn are.

Do you guys think I should just continue the lessons and spring it on her on the 30th (when we move) or should I tell her beforehand? She plays a part in my horse's care. I don't THINK she would mess with my horse but I am paranoid she may be rough with her or conveniently forget to give her breakfast or something. I don't have any worries about the barn owner messing with my horse in any capacity.

This is my first time moving barns. What do I do?
