Needed to get this off my chest. I was born and raised Catholic. Love the Catholic Church, and put the Catholic in Anglo-Catholic. Joined the Episcopal Church 5 years ago once I accepted myself as LGBT.
Recently, I have had some big disagreements with TEC and Episcopalians that has had me consider returning to Catholicism. But I can’t. I can’t leave a Church with apostolic succession that welcomes the LGBT community and women to the priesthood. It’s funny when I started attending Episcopal Masses I was anti-women’s ordination. Luckily Mother Catherine was patient with me and to this day she is one of my all time favorite priests.
I keep coming back to something I heard in small group during a cursillo just days before I was received into the communion: “I’m Episcopalian because of the Book of Common Prayer. I don’t care where we disagree but if you can come together at the altar and earnestly pray this book with me I will worship with you and you are welcome.”
That keeps coming back to my mind and I can’t go back to rejecting the faithful ministry of women and the LGBT community.
