I grew up RC and started altar serving since I was 8 years old. In my experience being an acolyte is only for kids.
Then I became an Episcopalian in my 20s and found out adults can acolyte too. Now I’m 30, I’ve been in my parish for a year. I have sat in the pews once since Easter.
Being on the altar week after week has really improved my spiritual life. Having the privilege to serve God on His altar is a beautiful feeling. For now, this is my ministry and it’s making me consider a vocation (probably to the diaconate).
But for now, I’m thankful that God has blessed me with the opportunity to serve on the altar. It’s saved my post-Covid spiritual life.
