I donβt have nocturnal epilepsy. All of my seizures happened within an hour of waking up. I had two seizures at night time but those were due to skipped doses and sleep deprivation. All tonic clonic seizures.
Two nights ago I had a nightmare. In my nightmare, I felt like I was going to get a seizure and had a terrible headache. I ran around the house to get Xanax. I was trying to resist having a seizure but I felt all of the symptoms, except losing consciousness. By seizure, I mean a proper tonic clonic seizure here. Did I actually get a seizure while I was sleeping?
I don't know if you had a seizure last night but your situation seems similar to mine. I want to share my story with you because maybe you could benefit with the changes I made that greatly reduced my seizures. I too had all my seizures in the morning.
I was told by an emergency room doctor that my seizures could be the result of an adrenaline spike. Basically waking up too quickly. But for that to happen, my adrenaline levels had to get low to begin with. Giving them room to spike. My seizures happened more often after I had slept an extra long time which gave me extra low adrenaline levels. I had most of my seizures when I woke up from these long sleeps and hopped in the shower. Basically causing my adrenaline level to rise quickly.
He recommended I wake up a little earlier and just sit at my desk on the computer for 30 minutes or so. Also I stopped taking showers in the morning. All of this reduced my seizures dramatically.
Does this sound like what may be happening to you? If it is, I recommend the above. And you can talk to me to ask questions. It really made a difference for me.
