I have been repeatedly told while going through college that someone with my condition(specifically the seizures) shouldn't be in college and that I shouldbe at home trying to heal. Also that my condition is dangerous to be in a lab with. That was said by the head of the disability Accomodations department. Yes, the conversation was recorded. Instead of fighting it though, I just transferred to a different college. But I am still have significant issues with professors here.
Besides the obvious discrimination, I am truly curious how many of us make it into STEM related jobs. My current goal is to work in Alzheimer's research or a Microbiology lab after college. Also if anyone that does work, if they still have "break through seizures". The reason for the quotations around Break Through Seizures is due to a neurologist telling me that there's no such thing and that any seizures that happen while you're being treated means you need a different treatment method OR it means you're not following the rules of your treatment.
I guess I'm just looking for a bit of hope at the end of the tunnel that is college and higher education. I would like to think it isn't for nothing.
I have a degree in Technology. In college we learned how to weld, forge, and use other big machines. After getting hired I would let my boss know how my seizures worked, but itβs never affected my job more than occasionally taking half a day off.
