Just venting because people are annoying and forever belittling our experience. Saw a neat social media post this week from someone with epilepsy detailing their pregnancy experience and how their medication needs have changed throughout pregnancy. Not something that is often publicly talked about, so I was excited to see it.
Of course, in the comments, there’s tons of people telling OP that meds are bad for baby and blah blah blah but OP was really cool and shared great educational info about how their meds are safe and they have been working closely with their medical team. But there always has to be some person telling OP to stop taking their medication because they should look into causes like gut issues and mold poisoning that are likely causing their epilepsy. Comments like these are just infuriating to read. OP wasn’t asking for advice, so why do you feel so entitled to give your unsolicited “medical” advice? Why do you feel like you know OP’s health history better than they do? Like, my epilepsy began right after I was hit by a truck, but please continue to tell me how it’s actually caused by mold or bacteria. 🙄
People like that are just so entitled and ignorant and so eager to belittle our lived experiences. Anyways, your experience is valid. Thanks for coming to my rant.
I’ve had 25 years, 4 doctors, 3 week long EEGs, 11 medications, brain surgery . . . And family that said “You should try acupuncture! It can fix it!”
You can’t imagine the eye rolling epileptics often have to do.
