So I've been taking various seizure meds for years and after seeing about 4 different neurologists and even going through a surgery with moderate success, I am taking a heavy dose of a med called Trileptal. The problem is, it doesn't always control my seizures fully at its dose and its side effect profile is hell for me. All of the side effects are noticeable for me even after multiple years of use of 600mg twice a day. I've taken several other meds at high doses from the same class of seizure drugs and have the same situation of side effects. My doctor doesn't seem to want to let me consider changing them, however I have seen an immunologist multiple times before for a serious condition called mast cell activation syndrome. The drugs of Tegretol and its drug relatives are all problematic for that for my immunue system and I can tell. There is a medication that the study and doctors recommend called Klonopin that I have taken with good success before however my current doctor did not want me on it long-term because its a benzo med and highly addicting. Benzo's are not something really want to consider taking large long doses of either anyway due to addiction potential so I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I don't know what doctor to talk to about seizures that will listen to me about my mast cell activation syndrome - I have tried and they don't seem to care.
