Hey y'all,
I've put together a small (7 question) Google Form on player progress and grind vs. gear acquisition. I'm just curious to see where the population of our little subreddit lies in terms of how many of us are new vs. veterans, how hard you grind, what kinds of gear you keep, whether you have gold issues, etc. I plan on compiling this data for use in some of my future guides, as well as just to inform the subreddit of the results in a later post.
It should take at most a minute to fill out, unless you need to read extensively about the concept of gear score, and then maybe FIVE WHOLE MINUTES max. :) You DO need to sign in to a Google account. This is just to reduce troll and spam responses, sorry in advance. :'(
- For "How many hunts do you run a day?" I understand that some days we don't run hunts, but if you are spending the majority of your time in hunts, answer this with a "hunt day" in mind, if you spend a good portion of your week away from hunts, respond with one of the first few responses.
Thanks to any and all that participate!
Gear Score: For the purposes of this form, I've included the concept of "gear score". This is a common system used to evaluate the worth of the substats on gear. Below is the explanation of how it works, as well as examples of gear you would or would not roll on to help with answering the form.
If you already understand the concept of gear score, reading everything below is entirely unnecessary!
Essentially every stat is worth one point. Exceptions:
- Speed is worth two (so 6 speed = 12 points).
- Crit chance is worth 1.5 (6 crit chance = 9 points).
- Flat HP/ATK/DEF are worth either nothing, or worth their value in % (so 100 HP is worth about 2 points, etc.), depending on how much math you wanna do in your head, as well as whether that stat is desired on whatever character you plan equipping this on. Average base stats (rough estimate, these are not calculated in any way): HP - ~5500, DEF - ~600, ATK - ~1000.
- EFF/RES only receive a score if they are relevant to whoever you would use that gear on.
- Main stat receives no value since it's a static value for each ilvl. However obviously a poor main stat should be considered before calculating the gear's score. Likewise ilvl 70 gear on right side is 'gimped' by the difference in its main stat compared to ilvl 85, and the gear score should be reduced at 15 to compensate.
Further explanation using examples:
- iLvl 85 ATK% Ring - 4 Speed, 4% Crit Chance, 30 Defense, 7% HP - 4 * 2 4 * 1.5 7 ~5 (30 / 600 = 0.05) = 26 Gear Score. Assuming all stats are desired, including the defense. This would be a fairly decent gear to roll for a bruiser.
- iLvl 70 ATK% Ring - 4 Speed, 4% Crit Chance, 30 Defense, 7% HP - 26 Gear Score as seen above, except the main stat at 15 is 10% lower than iLvl 85. So it's an uphill climb to get this gear to be awesome.
- iLvl 85 FLAT ATK Ring - same stats. Garbage, don't even calculate.
- iLvl 85 FLAT ATK Ring, SPEED Set - Same stats. Gear score goes out the window, it has 4 speed and is speed set. Roll it until speed doesn't roll twice.
Gear score is not at all a perfect method, and as seen above, sometimes you'll roll things (usually this is related to speed, but not always) that don't have a high gear score because you're using your noggin! It's just a way to generalize "good gear" from "bad gear".
Examples of Gear Pertaining to the Form:
ilvl 85 Blue - 6% HP, 4% DEF. Would you start rolling this? If yes, select the first choice. If no continue down the line.
ilvl 85 Blue - 8% HP, 7% DEF. Is this the bare minimum you would consider to roll on? If so, select the second choice, if no continue down the line (and so on).
ilvl 85 Purple - 8% HP, 7% DEF, 5% Crit Damage. Is this the bare minimum level of quality for you? Third Choice. :)
- Between this one and the one above is where I'd expect most to fall, but feel free to prove me wrong.
ilvl 85 Purple - 8% HP, 8% DEF, 7% Crit Damage. Fourth Choice.
ilvl 85 Red - 8% HP, 8% DEF, 7% Crit Damage, 4 Speed. Final choice.
- Essentially you are looking for the most perfect gear to roll. If you answer this one, you're more than likely a troll, as I don't think even the whaliest of whales have this level of perfectionism. However if you ARE at this level, feel free to provide reasoning below.
Expand these concepts to 15 to answer the other question, which if you need further examples, let me know. I didn't want this already somewhat-daunting looking post to look even worse. :)
