Curious what people’s experiences are with various incubator spaces like venture cafe to name an example. I have tried my hand at a few startups and always find difficulty linking with the appropriate resources required to get things off the ground. Naturally, the first piece of advice (almost academic) is to start at the first stop of the innovation chain by attending networking events hosted by these non profits. I always hear promises of I’ll set you up with so and so and introduce you to xyz but when the rubber hits the road I never seem to get anywhere. I am appropriate on follow up and pursuit) but when it comes down to it, it seems like there are two issues.
- People are there for the free food
- The executive directors only care about having a conversation with the various politicians and local socialites with the intention of getting more money for programming - I get the nature of the job but I would think they would focus on creating value for their community
To be honest i have yet to find success here, has anyone had luck? Or same experience? Where do you go to find programmers and accountants interested in started something?
