The user who posted the recruiting course inspired me to post something free too.

My whole life, I did tech support for friends/family. In 2009, I was setting up a PC for my dad's cousin's sister's best friend, and my gf observed, "Hey you're good at explaining tech in Plain English. Why don't you do this for a living?"

Soon after I realized how absolutely under-served the residential IT market is. Zillions of consumers/boomers/seniors everywhere are being ripped off. Not only are they scammed by callers pretending to be tech support, but they're also ripped off by Big Box Stores pushing unnecessary products and services.

I knew I had to do something about it, so I wrote a book that describes the great shortcomings and huge opportunities. Here are some (very) rough estimates:

• 99% of people don't know their iCloud/Gmail/whatever passwords. You could start a business just helping people reset and record them on paper.

• 99% of the PCs in landfills are only there because they were roasted by Norton/McAfee/Webroot/Sophos. Once you rip those out, a machine becomes fast and stable for 10 years.

• 99% of people have Fake Rental WiFi. They pay a lot for a perfectly good Internet connection, only to have it crimped by this device.

• 99% of tech-wizard neighbor-uncle-cousin-nephews still think viruses happen, and aren't aware of the modern threats. When I show people things like The Google History Scandal, their eyes widen.

• And yes, Support Scammers ask to enter people's PCs and then ravage them. They their bank accounts/credit cards/SSNs. Recently two clients almost mailed all their CASH in a BOX to the bad guys. YOU might know it's a scam, but you don't realize how rampant it is. Intelligent successful retirees fall for it, because this world is alien to them. I clean up after such messes and educate on prevention.

• In this age where phonetrees and apps are shoved down our throats, it turns out people will pay anything to have a Real Human Being fight against Big Tech on their behalf. I am living proof of this.

All you need to do is read my book, print out some paper business cards, and watch it fly. I just surpassed 2,000 clients and it keeps growing despite my efforts to slow down.
