As the title says, I really think that my town could not only benefit from this, but the community as well. where I live, sports bars, irish pubs, gay bars, and nightclubs pretty much dominate anything you can do after hours here. even the local bowling alleys close before nine.
That when it hit me. there's dancing, or drinking, but what if we added gaming to the mix? Gaming, in all forms from board games to consoles, cards, and more. Imagine a place where you could go inside, order a shot and a burger, and sit down to play some smash brothers, or maybe play a game of magic, or even a place to bring your Dungeons and dragons group where you can get drunk in a bar while you get drunk in a bar.
I envision a place, where instead of inviting your buds to your apartment or house for a halo gamenight, you first head down to the bar, and game it up there, get your dinner and a drink, and go head to head with not only your friends, but anyone who thinks they can take you on.
Don't like to game? No problem, you can still sit at the bar, enjoy some grub and chat with those there. Don't want to drink or eat? Pay a fee and join in on the games. Diners/drinkers get to play free, and anyone in their group as well, even if they don't buy anything.
I want a place that's fun to hang out at, where people can go and play the games we all know and love. Gaming isn't a kid thing anymore, it was maybe twenty years ago when some of us picked up our first controller or card, But it's clear to see that even adults, and especially adults, considering almost every major non Nintendo game in the past few years has been geared towards us. Dave and Busters already does this with arcade games and ticket booths, but what if we removed the pay per play environment and just introduced it to a true bar environment, that won't cost you and arm, a leg, and a 50 bucks per person just to enjoy yourselves?
I think it will work, and from talking with some of the people in my local community here, it's an idea I think will definitely blossom where I live. From card shop owners and players, to gamestore regulars, everyone has said the same thing. "There's 60 bars in this town, but nowhere for us to drink!"
