[ Just a bit of context to start with. I've been in the trenches, built businesses (quite many actually), had success with some, failed some and always continued. Right now I am making money in two (one that was deemed by others failed and another that was deemed impossible) and launching a third which is almost ready; a world class business where I will be taking the fight to big names like you know, against Goliath story. And VC money will drool at. This is my retirement right there. ]
Anyway. Here's my advice, you might wanna listen. I'm not the best, I'm not the worst, I don't consider myself superior. The only thing I am is one that has been around and in those trenches. Here's what I want to tell you.
You can only get better. Not worse at it.
The most important advice I have for you is to NEVER GIVE UP. You'll understand more about this while reading below.
What defines an entrepreneur first of all is their will. The will to go through good times, bad times, be successful, lose it all, even a ton of failure at the beginning; and then rise again like the Phoenix bird. Your will is your blood. Your guts is your talent. Because you NEVER GIVE UP.
You might have lost a battle, but you haven't lost the war. Unless - you give up now.
Hell I'm not that smart or greatly skilled; but I have the will to get through solid wall. Claw through bricks if necessary. Bang my head until it crumbles if needed. Bite with my teeth if needed. (Not literally... but you get the picture).
You can fail 10 times in a row, yet if 11th is successful, you are set. Perhaps even for life. (I'm just reaching that point today)
Everyone around you will tell you: YOU ARE GOING TO FAIL. Including family and close friends.
You know the most ridiculous thing is, in all that...? Most of them actually believe they're helping and protecting you.
Others ... will just be envious. Some will actually be fully desperate for you to fail and would do anything to "help" you with that.
Also, side note. Reddit is a wonderful community but certain people here are full of poison and some will be sneaky enough to camouflage it in apparent help - they'll tell you they wanna help while "dripping that poison in your drink". Not literally again.
( Side note #2. When I left my home city decades ago with $1 in my pocket to create a business [Edit: $1 is figure of speech; but it became true in just a couple days, see comments], everyone at home laughed hard about me. They made bets as to how long it takes till I crawl back there in shame.
Well... that never happened. I'm on my feet. They still need jobs and can't build a business. I don't need any of that. I've funded my daughter these last years studying in one of the most expensive universities in the world - the top one for her field - and I'm so happy she graduated top of her class. Anyway. I believed in her - as I believe in me. So you should believe in you - and in your loved ones. )
Which gets me to the next one:
Believe in you. Nobody else will. That belief will take you THERE.
If you look at it now and you see that you have failed, you might be 100% wrong.
Because you don't know what happens next. You only see that you have failed previously. You see the residual effect of past actions, but not the effect of what you can do now. You don't know what next day brings. Keep grinding if you can. Push on. Get better. Or take a break and seek clarity. Then invent a new way. Pivot if needed.
Or, start again afresh if needed.
Just don't give up. Ever.
You have started a business? You are ahead of 90% others already. They will be bickering on the side of the road, watching you pass full speed.
You WILL FAIL at things. At entire businesses even. Not every business does survive, in fact most don't. Want an clear example? Look at how many failed businesses Google has. Or most other major firms. Yeah, with all that money, they still fail - a ton. But they know something and so should you:
Failure is part of the process. You need to master failure among a lot of other things.
It's how you learn. And improve. If you have the will and don't listen to loud mouths telling you: You're not an entrepreneur. You're a shame. You have failed and will fail.
- Those that tell you all this shiP, either still have jobs, or are idiots. Yet they think they can advise you. They definitely aren't entrepreneurs - because entrepreneurs encourage others like them, not drag them down.
You never, ever have the right to judge someone. Not even yourself.
You can advice but it has to come from the true heart. Not from envy or judgment behavior learned from a broken family history such as a judgemental parent. Anyway, such pile of ... will often be sent your way I'm afraid - regardless. Even when you ARE successful.
Your vision is what drives it. Stick to your vision of success.
I started with $1 and put another $1 next to it. I still bootstrap every new business. If I could do it, so can you.
- You don't know how you will do it? Doesn't matter.
Nobody who achieved something important has ever know HOW they are going to do it beforehand. They just felt they can, and some knew they will.
( As for me, right now I took a "failed" bankrupt business I have and turned it 180 degrees in just a few weeks, and now it's like printing money. 2023 is a big success for me. This biz I own in particular, not my first not my last, has actually been hemorrhaging money for quite some time. I just went to basics - took full control of it and pivoted. Now it's not only making money but I will be able to have a nice exit soon; already did some talks but there are more interested to talk with.)
How did I achieve this change of fortune? Simple... I don't listen to that pile of ... you know. I look inside myself to see the truth. Anyone else is just a commenter. I know who I am and what I can, and I choose to give me trust, strength and to cheer myself up when bad days happen - they will happen sometimes.
Good luck there. And remember, again, your will is your best asset as an entrepreneur.
That is what most fail at. Whether you are super smart or less so, with money or with nothing, is not that important.
Oh, and not to forget - Kindness. Keep that in your heart, and distribute it, but do not let others take advantage of it.
P.S. Funny -I have no courses to sell, and no YouTube channel for you to follow, not even a biz link to promote here... surprising, yeah.
