Flying ant problem in my apartment

Post Body

I live in an apartment with a slumlord landlord. So, the apartment has a lot of problems. One of those problems is that there are holes or cracks by windows and bottom of floor and door frames. I live in chicago, so bugs, insects, and arachnids are a huge problem in buildings that are almost 100 years old or surpassing that. Everywhere I have lived in chicago, has had a problem with these creatures: Centipedes, ants, spiders, cockroaches, bees, wasps, box elderbugs, water beetles, stink bugs, gnats, etc. I am sick and tired of it.

These past few days, I have had flying ants come into my apartment through a few of those aforementioned cracks in the frame by my living room windows. I have sprayed bug spray, (long lasting, supposedly up to 12 months), lemon and cedarwood essential oil(diluted), and of course I have been smashing them, but they keep on coming. I have lights above a mantle where the windows are, and I have been using those lights to attract the ants to one area. Also, I have been using the lemon and cedarwood essential oil spray because I looked it up, and apparently it disrupts their scent trails. They just keep on coming, and it has always been at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. I am at my wits end, any advice? should I just keep on doing what I am doing or try some other solutions?

PS: I love winter so I dont have to deal with this crap (insects, bugs, arachnids), it might be cold but still worth not having to deal with these things for a few months.
