Do insects suffer cognitive decline with age?
Post Body

I've lived in the same apartment for years, and have never had roaches. But over the last few weeks, I've encountered what I think must be the same cockroach. I've never met a bolder cockroach in my life - the first time I encountered him, on leaving my bedroom, he didn't run, but just ambled into the light, walked past me into my room, and started exploring. I caught him and took him outside into the courtyard, but I'm almost certain it was him who was back a few days later, this time just walking around in my kitchen. He made a half hearted effort to move behind the microwave, then begrudgingly hid under the dishwasher when I tried to catch him again. I saw him twice more, and each time he acted as comfortable in my presence as if he paid rent to live here. But after watching him move a free times, he reminded me of a slow, slightly confused geriatric. A bit uncertain, a bit slow, a bit doddering.

He's a pretty large American cockroach, so he appears to have been around for awhile. Is it possible he's starting to go senile, or am I reading too much into it?
