A short but not so sweet story about an entitled man
Post Body

Let’s set the scene. I work at a trampoline park. It’s nothing crazy just a bunch of indoor trampoline squares built into the floor platform, some obstacle courses, and a few foam pits. This story is set on a Friday night, and as usual it’s busy…

To enter the park, you must get a wristband and the appropriate socks at the front desk, more specifically our special “hospital like” grip socks. Once you’re fully checked in you must enter through the front lobby ramp which is staffed by a team member, checking socks, wristbands, and letting guests know the rules. Remember, this is the only way to get into the park. In the hallway by the bathrooms, there is an exit to the arena which has four one way doors, with large “STOP do not enter” signs, about waste height and guests just love to enter those doors for convenience… which again is not an entrance.

The entitled dad.

I was coming in from break and I see a group of kids and adults exiting through the exit only doors. Okay this is fine. But I see a dad and his kid waiting at the gate to go up… at first I assumed they wanted to use the photo booth which is next to the exit but no they were about to enter the exit only doors. This is the short conversation that ensues.

“Sir, this is an exit only door”

“Will I get sick?”

I didn’t hear him the first time so I ask

“I’m sorry?”

“Will I get sick”

Keep in mind this man is not wearing a mask, which is allowed in this type of facility, but me, being an employee and an avid mask wearer, had mine on.

“No, but thi-“

He cuts me off

“Then I’ll go up this way”

And proceeded to walk through the doors into the park. Now I’m normally a relaxed dude but this royally pissed me off.

I go to my manager and tell him the story, which really isn’t a huge deal but to me, I was just mad at this mans ignorance. Sure our park is following local health guidelines and such but these exit only doors were put in place months before Covid hit America. So no you will not get sick, this door is not for Covid specifically, but IS for everyone’s safety and to make sure everyone has a ticket.

For the next two hours I stood by those little wooden doors and had the pleasure of making this ignorant man walk around to the front with this little conversation.

Man walks up to the door, this time without an audience or child.

“I’m sorry you’ll just have to go around to the front to enter the park.”

He looks at me, annoyed and says

“Really…”

“Yes sir the entrance is right around the hallway to the front”

“You’re really going to make me walk all the way around to the front”

He proceeded to look at me like a child looking at a parent that just said iPad time is over.

“Yes sir”

And he walked away. I honestly thought he was going to put up more of a stink but I think the crowd around really gave him an ego boner the first time and when he didn’t get the pleasure, he just left, defeated.

While overall this isn’t a crazy story, but I thought I might share this little “anti covid” story with you.
