AD = Assistant director.
This ones a DOOSY!!!
I was working for the CAMP (costumes advertising makeup and props) crew for my schools drama program and our AD runs the crew. I have always heard the stories of CAMP Crew girls crying when they get home and I wondered why, they looked like they were having so much fun working on props and sewing costumes. How bad could this possibly be? I found out on my first day!
AD sent me to the set shop which was weird because we never worked with set pieces, and the stuff we worked on we just did in the storage closet. And this is what they said to me
AD: look at these chairs! Aren’t they beautiful?
Me: yes they are.
AD: Good but I don’t like this ugly red color so you are going to paint them blue!
(AD hands me a can of blue paint and a paintbrush)
Me: Are these chairs for the cafe scene?
AD No they’re for my daughters weeding.
WHAT?! These aren’t even for the play and you expect me to paint them for you? (Is what I would’ve said) but you don’t mess with the AD I started painting them and someone else joins me and soon the AD walks in to see what we are doing and here is how this conversation goes down
AD: do you two idiots even know how to paint?
Me and the other kid: yes?
AD: doesn’t look like it!
I was so mad at her because she made me spend my 2 hours with her working on something that we don’t even need for the goddamn play! I never told my parents about this but I was so pissed that she had the gall to make me do something for her that we weren’t even qualified by the drama committee to do. (Because we paint smaller props not set pieces, we have a separate team for that).
Turns out I was lucky because my friends sister who worked for the AD like three years ago had to assist in the remodel of the AD’s house. WTF! I never did camp crew again after that.
