Entitled Manager upset she can't give herself a rise
Post Body

Never realized this place existed (Thought there was only r/entitledparents ) but I've been desperate for a place to share the ongoing saga of my manager who has the biggest superiority complex I have ever seen. While there's plenty I could share (including the time they tried to tell us that laws on vacation pay were "just guidelines", and why they can take vacations whenever they want and we can't), the one that comes to mind both makes me laugh and facepalm.

  • M is Manager
  • CM is Chairman of the Board of Trustees

My manager is also the founder of the company, which is non-profit, supporting animals. For a few months now, they have been petitioning the Board of Trustees for a pay rise - one they refuse to approve until they have more information. The trustees don't really have anything to do with the day to day running of the place, so after they came out of one of their meetings the CM gave me a list of questions to answer - I run admin and bookkeeping, and a lot of the questions were related to our current workload, how we make money, people we're supporting, etc. M cuts him off and starts answering the questions themselves (not having half of the information, and going off topic) and asks to speak to CM separately. They go into another room and talk, and then CM leaves without another word.

Me: Everything okay?

M: No! I am the person in charge of this place! I work here 12 hours a day without complaint! (Sidenote, MULTIPLE staff members have offered to change their shifts so this manager can start at 9 and leave at 5 some days, and even when they do, they still won't leave the office)

Me: Well I don't mind answering the CM's questions, it's just about daily running etc so they can get a better idea of how we work

M: But it's none of their business! They don't tell me how to run this place or who to hire and what to pay me!

Me: Isn't that what a trustee is for? To make administrative decisions?

M: No, and that's what I'm angry at CM for, and had to speak to him privately! They don't need to know any of this! The only reason we have trustees is to make me money!

Make them money. In a non-profit. ...... Okay?

They ranted some more about how 'unfair' it was, and by this point I made my excuse to turn around and get on with my work before I said something to piss them off even more. I even had to Google the definition of trustee when I got home to make sure that I was right about that. No idea what the outcome has been, honestly I avoid the subject unless I'm specifically asked about it. CM's a really chill guy though, he didn't deserve a dressing down for literally doing the job he's offering his time to do.
