So about 12 years ago, my wife and I decided to buy a used treadmill on Craigslist for $50. It wasn't fancy, but it worked well and we both used it with no issues. About a year later, we were getting ready to move across the country and decided to sell it rather than take it with us. So, no being greedy, I listed it on Craigslist again for $50. I just wanted to get rid of it and get my original money back.
After about a week, Ken contacts me and comes over to take a look at it. We talked for a few minutes and I showed him that it worked and how to operate it. He even asked if he could try it out. I didn't mind that but he decided to run at a high speed for several minutes in my living room. It was a little weird, but in the end he bought it and hauled it away.
A few days later, I get another message from Ken. He's extremely upset because apparently he was using it at his home and was running very fast on the maximum incline. Something happened and the include unexpectedly slammed down back to the flat position. This caused him to stumble and fall. He said he wasn't severely injured but he was a little sore. He demanded I give him a refund and said I should be glad he's not asking me to pay for a doctor. I told him, "Hey, we never used the incline that high and never ran on it that fast and hard. You tried it out yourself and ran on it for several minutes before you bought it. It was working fine when I sold it to you. I'm sorry you fell, but that's my fault. You hurt yourself on your machine at your house. I'm not a store. I'm just a guy on Craigslist and I don't give refunds.".
Thankfully that was the last I heard from him. He never tried to sue and he dropped it after that. I'm sure a lawsuit wouldn't have gone anywhere but who wants to deal with that nonsense.
