Which of the following sentences is correct?
1. The innate skill Roar has leveled up!
2. The innate skill, Roar, has leveled up!
My question is: Do I really need to use commas to separate "Roar" from the rest of the sentence? If I use example #1, would it be grammatically wrong?
Is Roar the only innate skill (or the only innate skill being referenced in the surrounding context) and is thus being named by the sentence in question?
If not, the first version is correct. Otherwise it's the second.
Edited to add: Ask yourself if you can remove the part between the commas. If doing so doesn't change the meaning, commas are appropriate. Otherwise, remove the commas.

Yep! So it's option 2. You are naming his singular innate skill, so "Roar" is an appositive, set off by commas. The sentence would mean the same thing if the appositive (and its parenthetical commas) were removed.
