How important are summer internships?

I’m an electrical engineering student at college and will be a sophomore this upcoming year. I was wondering how important summer internships are and if they are important, how early should I start doing them(EX: summer between sophomore and junior year). Although, I have a summer job for next summer lined up in park maintenance that pays $20 an hour. Would it be ok to take next summer to make money and save then do internships after that? Or would you recommend after this summer I start looking for internships to do during summer?
