Can I get away with just a new cam or do I need lifters too? Built 351w

I bought a truck 3 weeks ago with a rough idle and even some stalling in gear. After going through diag, I found out one fuel pump was inoperative and one was powering on but had 0 psi. I replaced both pumps and got 32psi out of both when cranking.

Anyway, here's where it all went south. One of the time I was cranking to test the pumps, I heard a snap/crunch and it never started again. I pulled the distributor and lo and behold, the gear on the dizzy was fine but the pin was sheared. And the cam gear that runs the distributor had a snapped off tooth. https://imgur.com/a/j1oAS3L

The motor is built according to the previous owner's paperwork, here are the specs

Bored .030 over Crank cut .010 New oil pump New gaskets New camshaft - XR264RF-HR10 from comp cams .513 gross lift .006 tappet lift, 264 intake, 270 exhaust New bearings all around New pistons and rings New heads, GT40 302 heads New fuel injectors FMS-M-9593-BB302 New push rods, 1.5 roller rockers on 7/16 studs New shorty race pace headers New head bolts New water pump

I believe this was all done in 2018, this is just from the paperwork from PO

With the cam being destroyed, I want to put a new cam in it and get rid of it. I just bought almost the exact same truck but with a 302 today and it was $750 less but runs like a top. (This problem truck has a body lift too 😒)

My question is, can I get away with putting the same number cam in it or do I need lifters too? I have not pulled the V/C off to see if anything is bent, I will do that before I order anything (also to verify the heads too). And is there a cam that might suit this thing better or just go straight replacement?

My guess is the thrust plate was loose or the bolts broke and the cam walked itself off. The oil pump does spin easily btw.

Sorry for the long post, but any advice is seriously appreciated. I don't want two exact same trucks in front of my house for too long but I needed something for jobs around the house. Thanks!
