Please help me not be terrified of surgery
Post Body

I desperately want a lap - my pain is getting worse weekly at this point and I'm struggling to function tremendously. I have a consult this afternoon with an excision specialist to hopefully get one scheduled. But I have been waking up panicking every morning for the past few weeks, worried about surgery. The only 'surgery' I've ever gotten was wisdom teeth removal and I've only been admitted in a hospital once (ER for a burst cyst). It's all very foreign to me - my family have never had surgery and aren't in medical fields so I have no one to help normalize any of it. Any wisdom/experiences you can share would be so appreciated.

Part of the worry is about the outcomes (will it work? I know I can't really know), part of it is about the procedure (will I do everything right to get ready? will the surgeon f up my insides? how do I really know I can trust this guy?), part of it is because I have histamine/mast cell issues and stuff like fragrances really bother me and I get obsessed with stuff like 'will the hospital sheets make me nauseous/give me a headache', and part of it is just general 'this is a new scary thing'. I actually have little/no anxiety about recovery because of all of the wonderful resources on this sub and others.

EDIT: Thank you all so so much! I am feeling calmer and more confident and are talking your words and pro-tips to heart. This sub is amazing <3
