I've been a Windows user since the days of DOS and 3.1 right up until Windows 11. I work in IT, mainly in a Windows environment, on the side my main hobby is to game. I've lost count the amount of times I've installed Linux to days or hours later run back to Windows. I wouldn't call it my comfort zone just more that I keep worrying I'm missing out on some software, bleeding edge kernels breaking, or missing out opportunities with friends to have a game when time allows.
I kept asking myself why I follow many Linux sites, subreddits, GOL and discord channels, I guess I'm bored of Windows and Linux is something new to me and learning something new. I never thought anti-cheat would work on various titles but hey here we are! I've dabbled with Pop OS, Kubuntu, Fedora and now EndeavourOS.
I used Belena Etcher to write the ISO to the USB stick (flawless software) and installed with ease, the installer is simple yet offers much variation. The welcome dialogue box once installed is a nice touch and very simple to follow, all distro's should follow this! The ability to use pacman, AUR, flatpak is great and offers such much choice and variation in software. I use a unifying receiver for my MX Mouse and MX Keys and Solaar software worked like a charm.
At 1440p, 165hz using my 6600XT everything just worked, Steam installed and I tried Cloudpunk, Football Manager, Bloons TD 6 all worked perfectly like native. Apex took some fiddling but it seems 98% smooth for me now so time will tell.
I'm running KDE, next on the list is some customisation but I'll no doubt follow some tutorials before I let myself loose fully. This is one area Windows really lets itself down. Even if the urge is to resort back to my comfort zone I'm going to persist with Linux and see how I get on and give it a whirl. The community is on another level and every time I ask a question, I get the help and full answers with plenty of detail.
So if you are debating giving Linux a try so far its been a pleasant experience and from my experience with a few distro's Endeavour offers a easy start, plenty of options and answers in the arch wiki too.
