In the Shogunate of Kariforunia the people worship a group of gods known as 'Kami', local spirits that can number into the thousands. However, under the rule of Shogun Mitsubishi the religion of 'American Shinto' became a codified faith where although still decentralised there was a a clear list of popular Kami, rituals, and religious laws. Just like Shinto across the sea, American Shinto has no central authority in control of the movement and there is a lot diversity among practitioners with Kami. American Shinto is animistic and revolves around local Kami who inhabit nature as well as personify gods. The Kami are worshipped at religious household shrines, family shrines, and public shrines. The public shrines are staffed by priests who oversee offerings to the Kami and the provision of religious items such as amulets to the religion's adherents. Other common rituals include ritual dances, age specific celebrations, and seasonal festivals. Currently in Kariforunia, there is said to be over 300,000 different Kami although there is a certain list of 'popular' Kami that most Kariforunians show reverence for.

Amaterasu Omikami: Also known as Jesus, Buddha, Allah, the Holy Spirit. The Sun God.

Hachiman: Also known as Muhammad, George Washington, Douglas MacArthur, the Humble Warrior, Musashi. The God of War.

Inari Okami: Also known as Paul Bunyan, Thomas Jefferson, Jakob Ammann. The God of Agriculture.

Omoikane: Also known as Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla, Ernest Hemingway, Milton Friedman. The God of Knowledge.

Fujin: Also known as Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Matthew Perry, John Barry. The God of the Seas and the Sky.

Shinigami: Also known as L. Ron Hubbard, Philip Zimbardo, J. Edgar Hoover, Lee Harvey Oswald. The God of the Shadows.

Each of the Kami mentioned are the most popular or worshipped in the entire region of Kariforunia. In almost every village, town, or city, shrines to these Kami will be found. Each Kami attracts a different caste to them.

Samurai: Amaterasu, Hachiman.

Scholars: Amaterasu, Omoikane.

Serfs/Farmers: Amaterasu, Inari Okami, Fujin.

Fishermen/Sailors: Amaterasu, Inari Okami, Fujin, Hachiman.

Untouchables/Criminals: Hachiman, Shinigami.

Amaterasu is almost always worshipped by everyone in Kariforunia as she is represented as being the majority of old-world Gods. People find it easier to worship Amaterasu than most of the other gods as most other Kami are represented through different folk characters who were rumoured to exist or they were found in ancient books. Hopefully with the codification of American Shinto the somewhat divided populace of Kariforunia will be united through at least faith, not just devotion to their Shogun.
