Emotional overload

For the past few weeks I’ve been feeling extra sensitive to emotions and feeling them deeper. I’ve been in this jumbled mass of feelings some my own and I’m not sure how to deal with or regulate them. For years I’ve been using drugs and alcohol to numb them as much as possible and for the most part it was working, however recently it doesn’t seem to be having its full effect anymore and the feelings, thoughts, and emotions have been hitting me HARD. I understand I am who I am and I can’t change that fact in regards to being an empath but I never learned how to handle these strong waves of emotion and it’s having a physical effect on me and I’d just like some advice on handling them.
