Because they're both messy, immature, needy bishes. With good fashion. As a girl who was once a messy bish herself, I'm calling it like it is (and what it is, is FRUSTRATING).
I would take Emily with a new guy (the ski guy promo gives me a tiny bit of hope but I'm sure he's just a red herring). Or even more preferably, exploring the life of a single, empowered, modern woman. Or even Alfie, for god's sakes.
But the more these two women pine over Gabriel, the more painful the plot (which never was a good plot to begin with) gets.
I do not understand how two beautiful women would ever realistically get so wound up over one man, good looking or not, and go riding his merry go round season after season after season. Like they both should maybe just date each other at this point.
It would almost make more sense if Gabriel had a farthing of real personality, besides "chef" and "sometimes romantic". Like make the guy actually charming, or funny, or...something! A wooden cardboard man with a good face is irl only good for some f*cking, let's be honest, and after some time that lack of personality will wear you out and you will be dying for someone way more intellectually stimulating.
Both women are just so immature, toxic (let's again be honest), unable to grow and accept new things or changes that are actually good for them, and clinging CONSTANTLY to someone because the real diagnosis is that when you're immature, you also just don't know how to be alone and live with only yourself and feel good about it.
At least Mindy has the occasional good sassy quote every now and then. Probably the most self-aware moments of the show is when she's talking (well, most of the time).
anyways. that's the post. tbf I watch EiP mainly for the fashion, but sometimes even the fashion cannot distract me from the terrible writing.
