Bought the game 3-4 Years ago. Back then I was heavily into competitive FPS shooters (CS:GO, BF4) so naturally I gradated more towards combat. Got an eagle, then a viper and loved it.
Made (from the stats panel) 11 Million from combat bonds alone back in the day. I had a diamond back explorer too, but only for the vehicle hangar after I bought the new Horizons DLC. I didn't really get the point of landing on planets at the time, there was only the 'scan this station' missions. Eventually I quit playing just out of no real reason, other games took over, then college hit. Eventually upgraded to 'the vulture' and used it before I quit.
Decided about 1-2 months ago to re-install the game and try it out. I had a reasonable Vulture and a good Diamondback Explorer.
During this time I bought a Keelback (Thinking the extra armor would be safer XD ) and really found my love for trading missions. Fell in love with EDDB.io and we were off to the races. 'Whats the most profitable from here to there...or is there to this hop more profitable on my way to pick up xxxx commodity' - I just love that stuff.
I tried my hand at combat again, and oh my god was I terrible. I managed systems just fine, but I couldn't track a target AT all.
So much so that I actually gave up re-buying the Vulture and just took a free sidewinder.

Very kindly CMDR Rathour joined up and helped me (In my purchased training viper XD ) remember that in Elite Dangerous combat...it's all about the blue...The blue zone on the throttle that is...I was trying to turn and track targets at full speed XD
Once I realized that things really started clicking. I beefed up trading, sold the Keelback for a T-6
and purchased a Dolphin. Started running passenger and cargo missions every night and loved it.
Eventually made the 9Million back and re-bought my Vulture:
After a few weeks, Saved up enough this weekend to buy a Python:
Boy she is a nice ship! Capable on all fronts! Never thought I would get to this point! I can now out fit her for trading, or combat (kill and fetch materials with limpets). Have done some engineering on all my ships.
Starting to get a little burnt as of this weekend, so I'm taking a few days off. What is my next move? Well I am very happy to say the grinding is pretty much over for me! I'm done...the Python is pretty much bae, I have no real desire to grind for another 100 Million credits, and that wouldn't cover the outfitting costs of large ships.
My plans are to have fun!! My credit balance no longer matters, as long enough I have enough for a few re-buys.
I plan to outfit my old T-6 for mining, and have fun with that. Then maybe some community missions, and exploring in my Diamond back once again. Just doing whatever really, I think this will keep the burn out away not grinding for credits or engineering.
My most fun I've had so far is blasting Spotify, in the SRV scavenging for materials, with Drive Assist off :D
Thanks so much for reading, here are just a few extra screenshots: (First handful are super sampled no photoshop)
PS: Is the Adder or Hauler, the Elite version of the IRL space suttle?? I think it would be awesome to have one in the shipyard.
TL;DR: Quit playing 2 years ago. Just picked it back up. Had a blast, wrecking my old profile, but now have like 5 ships and a Python.
