Can a AC motor be just as efficient as a DC motor in terms of wind turbines?

Currently Iām building my phone wind turbine and Iām wondering if the method of putting magnets into a AC motor would have big enough effects for me too lose out on voltage. Would it just be easier and cheaper to buy a DC motor instead and run it directly off that or keep with that AC motor with magnets and run it through an AC to DC converter?
