For reference, I am 25 and currently work for an electrical contractor as one of our top project managers, managing industrial-level water/wastewater/power plant projects worth anything from $5M to $25M. I have been doing this and working for this company for almost 8 years now, but ever since I graduated college and got some additional certifications I feel incredibly undervalued and am considering looking elsewhere.
As far as qualifications, hereās where Iām at: - 8 years in electrical contracting business with 3 of the last 8 involving technical/design work as well as project management.
I have a bachelors in electrical engineering and just obtained my PE license.
I just got the PMP certification about a month ago.
Right now my salary is about $65k/yr with benefits like 100% health, 6% 401k, and vehicle allowance.
Current job is hiring people younger/with less experience and theyāre making more than meā¦in fact no one in management even went to college. (and there isnāt a large age gap either, all PMās are max 35 but most are 25-30).
Iām having a hard time determining what would be fair compensation. Itās been so long since I interviewed for a job and I honestly didnāt worry then about my salary since I was just trying to get through school. Does anyone have any opinion on what would be āfairā or what I could do to maybe get into a better position somewhere and be valued more?
EDIT 1: For location, I currently live in Florida but know of a firm advertising in Tennessee and another in North Carolina. If their offers are fair I would consider moving.
EDIT 2: As far as my experience I will elaborate more to make it add up some. I started with my current company when I was 16. During summers and every holiday break I worked full-time and I worked part-time (16-20 hours per week) through the rest of the year. Once I graduated and went to college, I scheduled my classes for late afternoons/nights so I could continue to work around 30 hours per week, again working full-time during any/all breaks between semesters. I graduated when I was 21, immediately took the FE the week after college graduation, took the PE exam last year, and just fulfilled the time requirement for my license in January.
