Hey r/ElectricSkateboarding community!
I recently took the plunge and ordered an Evolve electric skateboard, and I have to say, the anticipation is both exciting and nerve-wracking! 🛹
I've been a longboarder for a while now, and I absolutely love the feeling of cruising around on my trusty longboard. But, I couldn't resist the allure of an electric skateboard and all the cool features they offer. So, I ordered the Evolve board, and the catch is, it won't ship until October. Yes I got the onrique- as I had been considering a new loaded board for awhile then when they launched the new board with evolve I couldn’t resist. 😅
As I patiently (or not so patiently) wait for October to roll around, I find myself questioning whether I'll enjoy the electric skateboard as much as my longboard. Will it be worth the investment? Will it provide the same thrill and satisfaction of manual longboarding?
My biggest fears are: 1- so expensive and will that cost upfront pay off in fun and also will it last long. 2- I will hurt my self. 3- I look dumb riding it holding a remote ect when I’m used to longboard.
My reasons for getting it: 1- ride smooth paths like a dream 2- idk what else lol maybe the cool lights
I'd love to hear from the experienced e-skaters here. Did any of you make a similar transition from traditional longboarding to electric skateboarding? How was the experience? Any tips or insights for someone like me who's just starting this journey?
Sometimes, I can't help but wonder if I should've just invested in a shiny new longboard instead. But hey, I'm hoping that the Evolve board will prove me wrong and become my new favorite ride!
Share your thoughts, experiences, and advice, fellow riders. Let's chat about this exciting (and slightly nerve-wracking) transition! 🤙🏼🔌🛹
Keep in mind I live in NZ and there’s like 2 mainstream brands to buy here but I agree
Lol every one says harder why softer?
Ya have they never heard of the T pose dance
Oh lol this is an old pic on just a regular longboard cruising around my university campus to and from classes. No toes were ever hurt but I did typically wear vans
This is the best comment on this thread.
First of all I’m so sorry to hear about your friend who passed away. That is so so heartbreaking, and a good reminder to wear a helmet.
My first initial question is apparently this board comes with a fast charger but if that’s bad I’m hesitant to buy another one lol.
All those tips on weight distribution are great thanks. I definitely don’t think I’ll be rocketing down the street I just like chill carving seshes and enjoying the ride not going crazy fast. That’s kinda one reason I got it was to gain confidence going at higher than regular speeds and also knowing I have the ability to break.
Anyway I guess I’ll see when it gets here then if I don’t enjoy I can return it within 14 days supposedly
Because I live in in NZ this is the most readily available brand without ridiculous shipping costs and times no support and also I liked that they are using a loaded deck as I’d buy a loaded longboard anyway
Nelson bro I wish I know people here with electric boards![]()
That’s just a normal longboard mate haha
This makes me feel like I won’t like it and will return it hahahaha ![]()
I’m awkward enough as it is
I plan on just getting a helmet so I hope this is enough
Is full face necessary? I feel like it would impede my view
Bro everything in NZ costs an arm and leg and our wages certainly don’t reflect it either…. But hey steady it’s a beautiful country and the people are nice lol
Omg that’s so cool we are more or less in the same boat exactly. I hope we both come to love our boards. If you are ever in Nelson I’d love to cruise some paths with you or anyone for that matter
Holy moly I’m so sorry that happened to you
Also for me it’s not about the specs at all. I mean I want to go semi long distance but this should suit my needs fine. It’s just for cruising. And I also don’t think I want to go mega fast. I liked this board because it is beautifully designed and it’s made by a longboard company and I like that
Bro where do you live???
Thank you for this well thought out comment… and that’s the word I was looking for- BUYER REMORSE. And I haven’t even got the board yet 😂. So I’m confused you got the same board as me or you got a different one? Because I sure hope it comes with a remote for that price, it says it does.
But yeah 60 day shipping is wild for all those other boards plus no support. At least with evolve aswell if I do hate it I can return in 14 days.
Cool to hear someone in a similar boats take- did you coming from a skate/ longboard background too? I think it would help aswell if I knew people in my local area with electric board as I’d love to do a group ride even if it’s just 2 or 3 people but I live in Nelson and I’ve seen 1 or 2 riders but am not aware of any community like that here
Where do you live??? In NZ I’ve never seen those brands for sale unless you add $500 shipping which equalises the price
I’m glad it’s changed your life man good to hear it ![]()
That’s gotta be mind boggling haha![]()
When and what board did you purchase? ![]()

This is good advice I haven’t heard before regarding the height and stiffness of the board. And yeah I have seen a lot of comments referring to evolves issues like above and also their price to spec ratio. The biggest issue for me is I live in NZ so evolve is the dominant brand in nz unless I buy one of a dodgy looking website lol
