Good morning everybody! It's great to see you all here. I get a real sense of enthusiasm from this campaign. I got into politics because I enjoy making things happen, creating opportunities and improving people's lives. That can only happen because of your support.

I'd like to talk about a couple of things today. The first of these is our policy about immigration. One of the things I love about Canada is our multiculturalism, it goes right back to the very beginnings of our nation. And the Liberal Party believes it's important that Canada remains a welcoming and supporting nation.

a woman in the crowd shouts out "In the last parliament the UCP tried to ban immigration from half the world! What do you say to that?"

I opposed that bill. I thought it was a disgrace! We ought to stand up to anti-semitism and do what we can to end it but to ban immigration from individual countries is absurd! Let alone the fact that the countries on the list included Mexico and China. It's an outrage. Canada should be an open country and we should combat intolerance with openness and caring, not more intolerance. There's no reason why we should prevent hardworking people from immigrating into Canada just because of their country of origin.

The second thing I'd like to talk about is our policy for new parents. Our laws for parental leave need updating for today's world. A Liberal government will extend paid parental leave to up to a year for both mothers and fathers and we'll also extend this to single parents, adoptive parents and same-sex parents. We have to acknowledge that things have changed and adapt to it.

A voice is heard from the back of the room "How can we trust you'll stick around? Last time you lot got in, half of you ran off to the opposition!"

We'll I think it's a testament to my committment that I'm still a Liberal MP. I was horrified by the actions of my former colleagues last term. In fact, my opponent Cenarchos was a Liberal MP just last election. Since then he's been through the lot! I think if you're looking for a dependable MP in this riding, there's only one choice. I've stayed committed to my party and my constituents and I will continue to do so.
