Can someone give me a short summary about this games story? I've been trying to follow along but I ultimately have no idea what role my character plays in this games world.

Loving this game so far, but I feel like I would enjoy my playthrough more if I understood the lore a bit better. Who is the Tarnished and what threat does he pose in elden rings world. Where do all the monsters come from. Who are the two bosses that guard Stornvale castle? So many questions! Any explanations without spoiling the game would be greatly appreciated.
