Spirit Summons really suck. Were they nerfed or something?

Anyone else finding that Spirit Summons don't work very well? Whenever I summon either the Jellyfish or the Wolves, sometimes they will just ignore the target and instead just follow me
Also, the enemy just immediately focuses on me once it I start attacking it which makes the summons kind of useless if they cannot even distract or tank for me.
