What happened to pvp?

I used to play elden a bit ago, and recently i noticed when i pvp, either they jump of a cliff, not giving me any experience to learn off of, or i get jumped 2v1'ed and im unable to actually fight. Why dont people either 1v1 or just not want to fight? In old elden ring you never needed to invade 2 people right? Ya only needed to be online and ya can 1v1, i also relised i cant use the finger severe to leave AS they attack so i cant show how disrespectful they are being.
