I’m ready for the dlc!

Well i doubt id ever be ready but i’m at the end of main story just need to do an ending. But i’m not sure does the dlc take place after the main story or before? and will they game tell me what to do once i complete the ending or is there any advice y’all can give me for what direction i should head in? I’ve done my best to avoid literally every spoiler about the game including the trailers so please try not to spill too much. Thank you!!
