Summoning pool regret

I totally regret grabbing the summoning pool in front of Messmer's boss gate, or any of them in the dlc for that matter. Spent 4 hours straight trying to beat Messmer today and now that I have his gear I want to try it out in the base game but any time I send my sign to the summoning pool I immediately get summoned to help fight Messmer. SMH. I know I can just send my sign to nearby pools but I really am not looking for a specific fight or area, I just want to try my gear on non DLC enemies
