Y'all. I am in love with this weapon. My first playthrough I ran dex/faith Nagakiba with blood tax, falling back on Blasphemous Blade when I needed to go into EZ mode.
This time, I was running dex/arc rot build with antspur rapier, but decided to respec into STR and try out a basic bonk build. Played with all the huge weapons, but fell in love with this one for a few reasons:
- Troll's Roar is awesome, and only two weapons have it before you get to Mountaintops of the Giants. You can poise break crowds of mobs with the roar, and then the followup R2 basically poise breaks any non-boss.
- The moveset is smooth and beautiful for such a huge weapon. I know that statistically, Greatsword has slightly higher damage numbers, but I prefer this moveset for two reasons: the uncharged R2, which is basically a direct overhead slam instead of the normal wide swing. This is super useful in skinny hallways where most big weapons will slam into the wall instead of hit the enemy. The R2 is also about the same speed as the R1, so you basically end up using R2 as your default attack. The guard counter is also relatively quick and it sends rot dogs flying away through the air, which is hilarious because I hate those little turds with a passion.
- It's gold, so it is compliant with all Fashion Souls standards. I didn't spend 4 hours on character creation for my sexy Tarnished to swing ugly weapons.
If you haven't yet, some of you should give it a try. I'm running through Leyndell now, and even against the tough knights, combat is basically a constant string of critical hits and broken poise.
Any other Golden Sword users out there? I would love to hear from a veteran all the uses for this thing that I haven't discovered yet.
