Why does everyone hate me?

I just got the game (a year late I know) and am having a lot of fun with it. I enjoy the difficulty and the gameplay, and that’s why I assume pretty much everyone is hostile. But what is the lore reason why pretty much everyone wants to kill me? As an example, I just got into the academy and immediately spells are being thrown at me. It was a fun quick fight, but I as a character have no lore motivation to murder these people. Why do they attack me on sight?
