Boss instant kill bug? (minor boss spoiler)

I was fighting the Regal Ancestor Spirit and I summoned the greatshield phalanx ash summon. They were all standing under the boss and it did its magical breath attack all over them. The summons all died but then the boss disintegrated. I ran around a bit trying to find it because its hp bar didn't move, but about 10 seconds later the boss hp bar went from 90% to zero instantly and it said Great Enemy Felled or whatever. This ever happen to anyone?
