Best way to get started in arena PvP (learning fundamentals)?

So I just noticed that arena PvP and invasions are way different play styles.
I’ve been watching a few videos on spacing and such, but I’m getting wrecked out there
What set up would you recommend for someone wanting to practice and improve PvP fundamentals?
Sword and board? Beamore? Does it even matter?
Right now I’m dual wielding katanas
