Edit: thank you all for your support and advice. I won’t need any more advice because as one of you said, it’s her choice, so I’m butting out. She doesn’t have Reddit.
Posting but it’s about my wife. She’s been on Effexor for maybe 30 years for anxiety, at times up to 225. She had been taking 150 and then she’s been taking 75 for quite a while. She also takes Xanax daily. I’m trying to get her off the Effexor completely. When I took it many years ago, the withdrawal was terrible so I kinda understand what she’s going through. Anyway, Trying to get off with the help of doctor. She alternates between 75 and 37.5. She says on the days with 37.5 she feels more weird and has the brain zaps. She’s having a difficult time withdrawing and I wonder if it’s because of 30 years worth of use.
She just wants to stay at 75. Her PA wants her to stay and ADD Buspirone. Why is the PA giving her more drugs? I don’t know what to say. I feel 30 years on a drug is a long time.
My own experience has been with various SSRI for my depression. Over 40 years and nobody ever said try stopping and see if you’re still depressed. I did it myself in 2021 and I’ve had no major depressive episodes.
BTW she goes to the same practice as I do except I see the psychiatrist, who is an outstanding guy and doctor. I keep wanting to tell him about my wife’s case but…I’m just trying to help her but maybe I should butt out.
