I'm looking for ideas on careers that match my skills that I may never have thought of.
I've spent 15 years in the oil and gas industry as a pipefitter (with stints as a foreman or lead hand), equipment operator and laborer as well as some time as a residential plumber and safety manager. The last 2 years I spent with a piercing jewelry startup, researching and developing finishing processes and managing the shop, then leaving due to incompetent ownership. I find myself unemployed and unsure of where to go from here.
I'm taking the time to finish my basement currently and consider options. I have a strong interest in new and upcoming technologies like 3D printing, quantum computing, batteries, AI/machine learning (currently playing around with DALL-E), CRISPR, green tech and going on up into transhumanism. Other hobbies include creative writing, tinkering and hiking.
I'm not afraid of hard work, but a damaged rotator cuff and compounding injuries from 15 years of construction plus a case of diverticulitis makes getting back on the tools a tough go. I just can't put out like the younger people anymore.
So my question is, are there any jobs out there that play to my experience and skill-set that I'm maybe not aware of?
