Is there any proper/official way to edge?

I usually edge for a few hours to a few days but it’s very irregular. Like I would sometimes edge once or twice before doing something else and then returning back when I have gone soft. Sometimes I will keep on edging and will get edges one after the other. Is there a proper or official way to edge? Like you have to edge once and then you can’t touch your dick until it’s soft again. Or you have to wait for sometime to let it cool down?
