I'm a freelancer or gig worker and finally got my weekly benefit amount to show up after several weeks and ........ it's close to $100 per week! That is $350 less than I received last year. WTF!
I've been reading about this happening to other freelancers who work for some companies with a W2 and some with a 1099. Apparently the system disregards ALL of your 1099 income and only calculates your weekly benefit amount from your highest W2. It also prevents you from being eligible for PUA.
There MUST be a way around this. I work TOO hard and pay TOO MUCH in taxes to be shortchanged like this as a freelancer. $100 is only enough for groceries, and barely anything else.
Has anyone else been in this position?
I can't make ends meet on this ridiculous weekly benefit amount. Please help!
