Where do I start and what is the best way to file?

Last Thursday right after getting off work I was walking safely through a parking lot, and out of nowhere a car hit me pretty hard. I now can barely walk and my whole body is very sore and stiff. I am gonna need plenty of time to recover and physical therapy before returning back to work. What is the process of filing? Do I go to a doctor to do it or do it myself? I would appreciate a step by step simple method of doing this as quick and efficient as possible. Thanks.
