How long did trade war lasted on average?
Post Body

I am counting the chances for a re-made U.S.-Chinese relationship despite the trade war. In order to have a bit of perspective I was wondering how long do trade wars last on average. I guess I would need to weigh that by something, like the GDP involved, isn’t it?

In the US history:

  • Boston Tea Party: 1774->1783 = 9 years
  • Smooth-Hayley Act: 1930->1934 = 4 years
  • Chicken Tariff War: ? = ?
  • Trade War with Japan: 1987 -> ? = ?
  • Canada lumber war 1982 -> today ? = 38 years
  • Banana war: 1993 -> 2012 = 19 years ?
  • Steel reef: 2002 -> 2003 = 1.5
